To Kill a Mockingbird is considered one of the most influential books of all time. Through the eyes of the children of an upright lawyer, Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores the issues of race and class in the Deep South of the USA in the 1930s with compassion and humour. From a close reading of the novel, students will learn about the historical and social context, and explore the themes of prejudice and hypocrisy.
