The Year 3 English course is an enrichment course that teaches both reading and writing skills.
In reading, students study in detail at least two extended texts of a variety of genres in class, practising skills such as interpretation, inference and analysis. They learn to place texts in a historical and social context to help them better understand the story and characters. The reading texts provide a platform for learning writing techniques. Every week, students have to complete a writing task. Over the course of the term, they will write a variety of text types, learning about text structure and organisation, language techniques and grammar and punctuation. Students will also have homework to complete. Different activities are provided for homework, depending on the lesson focus. This can range from cloze passages, editing for spelling, grammar and punctuation, to reading comprehension.
