Year 4 English Course: Term 3

From Term 3, our Year 4 English Course will now cover both Writing and Reading Comprehension.

Writing:

Learn the correct structure for a range of key text types, including narrative, persuasive, newspaper reports, diary entries and more.
Learn a range of advanced writing techniques for the different text types.
Students will complete a weekly writing task for homework which will be marked and corrected by the class teacher.
Strong focus on mastering basic skills: spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Teachers will model careful planning and editing skills to lay the foundations needed for writing success in exams.

Reading Comprehension:

A range of different text types will be explored, including non-fiction, cloze passages, poetry, fiction, linked extracts and more.
Focus on higher-order thinking skills.

Homework:

Writing: complete the weekly writing task based on the work learned in class.
Vocabulary revision: revise the weekly vocabulary words taught in class.
Reading comprehension: 1-2 weekly homework texts.
Novel study enrichment: 1 chapter per week with a focus on high-order thinking skills and critical reading.
