The aim of this course is to develop students' essay writing skills to prepare them for the advanced topics encountered in their high school studies. Students will study exemplary responses and build their skills as writers through tasks designed to encourage their confidence and ability to write with style. Topics to be covered include essay preparation, economy of language, parallelism, and manipulating the five-paragraph essay structure to create sophisticated responses. We will also cover important topical skills such as close reading and writing about context.
Students who completed the Set A Advanced Essay Writing course in winter can also enrol in this course. Set B teaches the skills in a different way and uses different examples.
