This course is designed to foster a love for language through interactive and age-appropriate activities. Students will engage in reading and writing exercises that promote language development and comprehension across a range of text types, such as information reports, narratives, opinion pieces and news articles. The weekly writing task is based on the reading activities, allowing students the opportunity to practise what they've learnt, thus building essential skills for effective comprehension and communication.

Teaching plan
Vocabulary is included in most weeks. Homework includes a writing task that is teacher-marked, and other activities that are self-marked. There is no homework in week 10.
Week 1: Understanding persuasive texts – structural elements, persuasive language – modality, persuasive text comprehension
Week 2: Persuasive texts – fact or opinion, combining fact and opinion, persuasive text comprehension
Week 3: Persuasive text introduction – hooking the reader, statement of position, grammar – articles, text analysis, vocabulary – antonyms
Week 4: Understanding informative texts – features, informative text comprehension, adjectives, cloze
Week 5: Informative texts, finding the main idea, informative text comprehension, listening comprehension, cloze
Week 6: Informative texts – text analysis and comprehension, book covers, visual texts, cloze
Week 7: Procedural texts – features, reading comprehension, command and action verbs, adverbs, sequencing
Week 8: Visual text comprehension, listening comprehension, comparative and superlative adjectives
Week 9: Reading and writing assessments & review, vocabulary and grammar quiz, comparative and superlative adjectives puzzle
Week 10: Mixed texts comprehension including poetry, listening comprehension, compare and contrast
