Literature is not written in a vacuum. The historical, social and political contexts naturally influence not just what a writer writes about but also how they express their subject matter. In this course, students will learn about various historical periods from the Renaissance to Postmodernism (the present day). With this knowledge, they will come to develop a deeper appreciation of the texts they ready and understand how a text may be revolutionary for its time.
