“Sing, O Muse, of Rage”: An Introduction to The Iliad and Greek Mythology
In this five-day course, students will study a foundational text of Greek epic poetry, The Iliad, and discuss, explore and analyse this profoundly influential work. Students will learn about some of the most iconic heroes in all of myth, Achilles, Odysseus and Hector, as well as intricate female characters such as Helen and Andromache. They will learn about the complex ways in which gods and monsters are woven into this ancient legend, as well as the ironclad belief in the power of fate that continues to resonate with audiences over 2,500 years later.
Students are advised to read the text before the course begins.
