Comedy
What makes a text funny? Why does a comedic text provoke/evoke laughter in some but not in others? Through an analysis of different comedy texts such as plays, cartoons and films, students will learn about how the definition of comedy has changed from Ancient Greek times. Students will learn about the different techniques used in different forms of comedy. They will learn about the different types of comedy, from wordplay and misdirection, to political satire, to slapstick and stand-up comedy.
