In this intensive selective school mathematics course, our lessons consist of four main components:
• 20 Minute Mini Test with review (Approximately 1 hour)
Every week, students complete a 20-minute mini test with a review immediately after the completion of the test.
• Topic focus: (Approximately 20 minutes)
Students will be completing a brief review of the main ideas and mathematical concepts that are required for the selective school examination. These topics include:
Week 1: Triangles and Quadrilaterals
Week 2: Angles and 3D objects
Week 3: Pythagoras’ Theorem
Week 4: Counting Techniques
Week 5: Prime Factorisation
Week 6: Addition and Subtraction of Negative Numbers
Week 7: Multiplication and Division of Negative Numbers
Week 8: Venn Diagrams and Problem Solving
Week 9: Percentages and Problem Solving
Week 10: Assessment Task
• Problem Solving: (Approximately 40 minutes)
Students will be attempting to solve harder problems that are similar to the harder problems found in the selective school examination. This part of the lesson teaches students a wide range of problem-solving techniques, preparing them to systematically and flexibly solve new problems that they may encounter in the selective school examination.
• Homework
Homework aims to consolidate the topic focus area, allowing students to gain confidence and accuracy in their mathematics. To assist students in completing their homework, videos explaining the harder questions of the homework are accessible to students through the Eduvision Portal.
