Speak I Must: Female Voices in Literature
In this course, we will delve into the rich tapestry of literature crafted by women writers, exploring their efforts to redefine their realities using their voice. Our journey will traverse centuries of literary works, pondering the evolving portrayal of women in literature, societal responses to female authors, and perceptions of women's roles across time. Through our readings, we will seek answers to key questions: What obstacles do female writers encounter? What obligations do women authors bear in challenging societal norms?
Students will read in a variety of genres, write persuasive, analytical and discursive responses, view clips from film and videos, and participate in class discussions. By course's end, students will attain a deeper comprehension of how female authors wield literature as a tool for reshaping societal norms, within a literary landscape traditionally dominated by men.
