Year 5 NAPLAN Reading and Persuasive Writing

NAPLAN 2025 will be held beginning 12 March.
This course will combine reading activities to extend students’ comprehension and interpretation skills, and persuasive writing skills.

Reading enrichment: 1.5 hours
Students will read a wide range of text types, from informative and persuasive texts to literature in the form of narratives and poetry. Focus will be placed on higher-order thinking skills such as interpretation and inference, as well as the ability to support and explain a statement.

Persuasive writing: 2 hours
Students will begin by focussing on elements of grammar, such as the correct use of connectives and modality, and sentence structure, such as how to avoid run-on sentences. They will also learn how to write an introduction and conclusion and how to use persuasive devices and techniques to strengthen their text. Students will complete an in-class writing task on days 1-4.
