Wild Eyes In The Dark: Comparative novel study
Students will study two iconic novels that span the breadth of modern literature: William Golding's Lord of the Flies and Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. In this comparative novel study course, students will analyse both texts, engage in discussions about the themes and contextual events that inspired these works, and reflect on their commentaries about human nature, violence, power, and civilisation. Students will engage not only with the literature, but also with the works of philosophers, historians and other writers that provide commentaries and insights into the core themes. Note: Students will be expected to read both novels to get the most out of this course. It is recommended that students start reading during the holiday break, so that they are able to engage fully with the discussions and assignments of the early part of the course.
